SODIUM CYCLAMATE (E952)

A calorie-free sweetener discovered in 1937.

Relative sweetness:
30 times sweeter than sugar.

Metabolism:
it is absorbed by the body in very limited quantities; it is mainly excreted unchanged by the kidneys.

Features:
It is possible to reduce the caloric content of food and beverages by replacing sugar with cyclamate. Stable, has a long shelf life. It can be used for cooking and baking. Does not cause tooth decay. It is shown to people suffering from diabetes mellitus. In combination with other sweeteners, it gives a synergistic effect.

Limitations:
Low sweetness coefficient among calorie-free and low-calorie sweeteners. Therefore, cyclamate is usually used in a mixture with other sweeteners.

Safety:
A large number of scientific studies (about 75) have been conducted, confirming the safety of cyclamate for humans. The World Health Organization periodically monitored safety issues and in 1982 increased the permissible daily dose of cyclamate consumption by almost three times.In 1985, the complete safety of cyclamate was also confirmed by the US Academy of Sciences.

Condition:
Cyclamate is approved in more than 55 countries around the world (including the Russian Federation). It is approved by the Joint Expert Commission on Food Additives (JECFA) The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Scientific Committee on Food Products of the European Community.

The permissible daily dose.The permissible daily intake dose (ADI) for cyclamate was set at 11 mg per kg of body weight (JECFA).
